I have always loved to be in touch with nature.

One of my favorite destinations to indulge in this passion is a place close to the edge of the world, a region in Chile called Patagonia. This vast region has always offered the opportunity to experience nature at its most dramatic. Spectacular landscapes with unique rock formations, massive glaciers, wild fauna and ancient Indian cultures. For me, this is the perfect place for outdoor activities and meditation.

Between turquoise glacial lakes, waterfalls and grassland, lie, Torres del Paine, a massive vertical granite formation that dominates the landscape and captures the imagination. Formed in the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs still wandered our planet, Torres del Paine is the last crest of the Andes Mountains in the south. It is as if they are wanting to say goodbye to us before they completely sink in the famous Magellan Straight.

Patagonia is the perfect place to “talk a mate”, (a traditional herbal tea) with the gauchos while listening to their stories by a campfire. Dinner now is served. May I suggest one of my favorites of this region? BBQ lamb with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from Maipo Valley tells the tale of the land and just happens to be delicious.

At the end of the day, there is always time for stargazing for the Southern Cross or to simply relax with a good massage at my favorite property near the park, The Singular Hotel Spa.
